Building sustainable homes

At Wessex Water, we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment.

That’s why we are encouraging housing developers to build sustainable new homes, by offering a range of discounts designed to reduce the load on our networks, encourage better water efficiency in the home, help our customers save water, and reduce the risk of sewer flooding.

The discounts are available as reductions to our infrastructure charges, which are payable by developers who make a connection to our network for the first time; or where an existing property is converted or re-developed.

Sustainable water infrastructure charge

If you can show us that you are building new homes to use less than 100 litres of water per person per day, you could get a £100.00 discount off your clean water infrastructure charge.

Sustainable sewerage infrastructure charge

If you can demonstrate that properties are built with no surface water connection to the public sewer, or where flows are substantially attenuated via an agreed SuDS scheme, then you could be eligible for a significant discount to the sewerage infrastructure charge.

Infrastructure charge due for development (no surface water abatement)** Standard Charge for relevant charging year
Infrastructure charge for schemes with the inclusion of an agreed SuDS scheme that attenuates the flow of surface water into our existing or proposed network 50% discount against the Standard Charge for relevant charging year
Infrastructure charge for schemes that commit to zero surface water discharge into our existing or proposed network 90% discount against the Standard Charge for relevant charging year

**Not normally permitted. Please see our surface water policy for more information.
